Our Artwork at Calgary’s Evergreen Theatre

Go and see our artwork in-person! Barboria and I each have 3 of our artworks on exhibition at Evergreen Theatre’s Canopy Gallery in Calgary. It is located at 1709 8 Avenue NE. Go and take a look and bring family and friends along, too, to see the artwork and the nice theatre space!

We have a variety of media including acrylic, oil, watercolor, and colored pencil on display at the venue as well as fun subjects such as landscapes (including the Glenmore Reservoir!), a portrait, and calligraphy!

Take Small Steps to Reach Art Goals

Take steps each week and month to reach your personal and professional art goals in 2017! Below are some suggestions to help you get started on the right path:

1) Send out those e-mails and make those calls to prospective clients to let them know about your artwork
2) Schedule art shows and exhibitions for your artwork, photography or sculpture
3) Collaborate and work together with other artists to reach a larger audience or complete a project you have always wanted to do

Use the above ideas as starting points for assisting you in sharing your art in 2017 with your audience!

Make 2017 Your Year of Art and Creativity

Set yourself a goal of making 2017 your most art-filled and creative year yet! Try a painting or drawing class; take music lessons; or go to the theatre for a play or concert. Whatever it is that you may like to try to grow your creative skills and abilities, take a step forward and give it a try.

We at Sunny Bay Arts look forward to helping you reach your creative and art goals in 2017! Make sure to check back regularly for upcoming exhibitions, new artwork, and art classes.

Creative Venues for Artwork

Showcasing artwork in creative venues can add to a viewer’s experience of seeing and interacting with art. Some creative and unique venues to display art include:

– gardens
– hotels
– theatres
– artists’ open studios
– hospitals
– health centres

Showcasing artwork is not limited to gallery walls or windows. Instead, treat viewers to an art experience they will not forget by choosing a creative and unique venue to display your art.

Q & A with Julia Reimer from Firebrand Glass Studio!

We are pleased to share this Q & A with an Alberta artist! Julia lives Black Diamond and works at Firebrand Glass Studio ( www.firebrandglass.ca). Enjoy the Q & A:

Q: Do you have anyfavourite ways of finding inspiration before starting new glass work?
A: Going for a hike in the Sheep River Area – near Sandy McNabb. I keep my eyes open to the inspiration around me – this time in nature grounds me and inspires me.

Q: Does your style change as you grow as an artist?
A: I think yes, as you become engaged in other ideas your style can change. I think within this there are themes that persist.

Q: What makes Black Diamond and Alberta great places to be an artist?
A: Black Diamond is a fabulous place to be an artist especially if you love nature and are inspired by it. The town is 15 minutes away from a provincial park, so there are so many opportunities to hike, photograph, sketch and just have some quiet contemplative recharging moments near by. Also, most of the houses in Black Diamond have large lots, so there is plenty of room for studio spaces, storing of supplies and the cost of living here is reasonable; we would not have been able to have the studio spaces we have here in Calgary. The other thing that makes this an artist community, is that there are other artists and arts focused businesses here. There is a relaxed energy here, where people are able to try things and be creative. I think the town could do more to promote the amazing arts scene we have here but in the meantime there are some incredible places and things going on – all just 45 minutes and a beautiful drive away from Calgary.

Q: Do you have any upcoming projects or shows you would like to share?
A: We are having an exhibition with some other artists who work out of our studio at the Leighton Centre. The opening is on September 27 from 1-3 and from 10-5pm there will be demonstrations of artists making their work here at the studio. I hope you can make it out that day!
